Daniel Steiger, resident of Hilton Head Island, SC, formerly of Potomac, MD, passed away on October 26 at his home with his wife and son by his side at the age of 81 years. Born to Leo and Tauba Steiger in Brooklyn, NY, Dan graduated from Midwood High School, Adelphi College (BS Physics) and received a Master of Science (Engineering) from The George Washington University. He retired from the Department of the Navy, Naval Research Lab in 1998 where he worked for 31 years in ocean research and engineering. He managed the Navy’s Autonomous Underwater Vehicle research program. He could fix anything around the house due his background in engineering and he enjoyed researching topics on the internet, biking, swimming, walking, playing the banjo, tennis, golf, and boating. He was loved and will be missed by his wife Barbara of almost 36 years; his children Kevin (Corrine) Steiger and Hillary (Dan) Hall; stepchildren Jill (Russell) Barbor and Kenneth (Joanna) Shapiro; grandchildren Cody McArdle, Madison Barbor, Austin Hall, Erica Hall, Blue Shapiro and Cedar Shapiro; his sister Madeline (Arnold) Beckerman, and was predeceased by his brother Martin (Marilen, survived) Steiger. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

The devoted husband of Twila (Cosby) and proud devoted father of Mark, Joel (Portia), and Kyle (Chantal). Lovingly called "Grumpy Poppa" by his five grandchildren Brock, Bergen, Adeline, Beck, and Isabella. Predeceased by his parents Frank and Anna (Schmidt) Steiger (York Cleaners). Loving and devoted brother to Betty (and the late Corky) Nicol. Respected and loved by his nephews and nieces David (Marsha) Nicol, Vicki (Fred) Tomczyk, Beth (Arndt) Schreiner, and sister in law Gail Friesen, brother in laws John and Jim Cosby. Great Uncle to many loving nephews and neices. Frank was a self-educated man and entrepreneur. He owned "Northern Natural Stone" in the 1970's. Many homes from that era have his fireplace stone. He was well known by the builders in the Niagara Peninsula. Frank later began his own trucking business, " Frank Steiger Trucking" , hauling aggregate to many of the highways and construction sites throughout the Niagara Peninsula, Hamilton and Burlington areas. Frank was very proud of his Western Star truck. He was direct, honest and loyal to a fault. He could always be relied on to deliver. In his earlier years, Frank was well known on the Stock Car Circuit as "No. 55". He loved the competition in both trucking and racing. Frank was well informed in history and geography. He pursued...

Margareta M. Steiger, age 74, Lisbon, ND, passed away Sunday, February 20, 2005, in the North Dakota Veterans Home in Lisbon. Margareta Baumstarck was born March 25, 1930, on a farm 18 miles east of Linton, ND, the daughter of Adam and Juliana (Vetter) Baumstarck. She attended rural school in the area. She moved to Bismarck, ND, in 1953, and began work at St. Alexis Hospital. Margareta was united in marriage to Alfred E. Steiger on June 27, 1956, in St. Mary?s Church in Bismarck. The couple lived there until 1958, when they moved to Fargo. She was a daycare provider, and also provided foster care and in-home care in their home. The couple moved to Lisbon in March 2001. She is survived by her husband, Alfred of Lisbon; one brother, Adam (Cecelia) Baumstarck of Linton, ND; three sisters, Sr. Leona Baumstarck of Richardton, ND, Kenegunda (Leo) Unser of Napoleon, ND, and Juliana (Val) Malsom of Ipswich, SD; three sisters-in-law, Kathyren Baumstarck of Lowell, WY, Rose Baumstarck of Bismarck, ND, and Beverly Baumstarck of Bismarck; and numerous nieces and nephews. Born on June 18, 1927 in Garfield, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Vincenza Tomasello. She and her husband, the late Frank Steiger, who died on December 4, 2002, had lived in Saddlebrook, NJ before moving to Belvidere 51 years ago. Frances was a parishioner of St. Patrick R.C. Church, Belvidere, NJ. Frances was an accomplished seamstress, and especially loved to sew dolls. She also crocheted many beautiful afghans. Her passion in life was taking great care of her family and home. In addition to her parents and husband, Frances was predeceased by a son Frank Steiger, Jr.. Surviving are a son, John A. of Easton, PA; two daughters, Rose A. Jiorle Treible of Lopatcong Township, NJ and Susan Ostrander of Coaldale, PA; six grandchildren, Travis and Justin Jiorle, Adam, Brittani, Johnathon and Dakota Steiger; two step-grandchildren, Christopher and Benjamin Schell; four great-grandchildren, Errol and Nolan Jiorle, Natalie Rose Nixon, and Mason Adam Steiger. Mrs. Ruth Steiger of Camrose, Alberta passed away on Wednesday May 8, 2013 at the age of 88 years. Our mother, Ruth Semon, was born in Okotoks. She lived in Calgary with her father and mother until her mother died when she was nine. She took care of her Dad and her youngest sister, Isabel. They moved from Calgary to Black Diamond where her Dad built a blacksmith shop. There she met and married Gordon Steiger. A year later, he was in the army and sent to Newfoundland for three years in WWII. Mom stayed with her Dad's parents for three years during WWII until Dad was discharged. He then returned to the Oil Company. They lived in Devon, Redwater and Red Deer. Some of Mom's most treasured memories were of her Aunt Dixie, two years older than her, they spent a lot of time together in their teens, riding horses, and playing football after school. Mom raised seven children and even though she was strict, they all challenged her in their own way. Sometimes she and Dad would find a few minutes together under the Devon Bridge on their way home from shopping, until the Devon police checked them out. Mom was predeceased by her sister Isabel; her husband Gordon; and her son Daniel.
