The Ford F-350 Super Duty is the type of truck you only buy if you need to tow seriously big rigs that are beyond the capabilities of the smaller F-150 and F-250, with the modern F-350 Super Duty generations capable of towing more than 32,000 pounds. The first of the Ford F-350 Super Duty generations came to market in 1998 as a 1999 model and, true to its purpose, came with high-torque, large-capacity engines, with a turbo-diesel always on the menu, with various body options, both 2WD and 4WD, and single or dual rear wheels. After the first generation had lived out its nine model years, the Ford F-350 Super Duty’s first redesign went on sale as a 2008 model with a stronger frame, a better ride, and new engines. Only three years later, the third generation went on sale as a major update of the previous model, enough to warrant a new P473 internal code, also finally dropping the manual transmissions. The latter years of the subsequent P558 fourth-gen truck would introduce the new Godzilla gas V8 that finally replaced the Boss engine. The brand-new 5th-gen F-350 for MY2023 was the first to put a 500-hp turbo-diesel engine on the market.
2023-Now Ford F-350 Super Duty 5th Gen (P702)
The completely redesigned fifth-gen truck saw a 6.8L version of the Godzilla gas V8 with 400 hp replace the old 6.2L Boss V8 and the introduction of an additional high-output version of the 6.7L PowerStroke turbo-diesel V8 with 500 hp and 1,200 lb-ft of torque - market-leading figures.

2020-2022 Ford F-350 Super Duty 4th Gen (P558) Facelift
The 2020 model year brought changes to the Ford F-350 Super Duty that included a facelift, a new 430-hp Godzilla 7.3L gas V8, and a brand-new 10-speed automatic transmission. The 385-hp 6.2L engine remained and the 6.7L turbo-diesel now developed 475 hp.

2017-2019 Ford F-350 Super Duty 4th Gen (P558)
The 2017 P558 was a full redesign, but still came with the 385-hp 6.2L Boss V8 and 440-hp 6.7L PowerStroke turbo-diesel V8 with a six-speed auto, though the diesel’s output was eventually boosted to 450 hp.

2011-2016 Ford F-350 Super Duty 3rd Gen (P473)
The third generation was a major update of the second and came with new engines - a 385-hp 6.2L Boss gas V8 and a 400-hp 6.7L PowerStroke turbo-diesel V8, though the diesel’s output would eventually creep up to 440 hp. At this point, the only available transmission was a six-speed automatic.

2008-2010 Ford F-350 Super Duty 2nd Gen (P356)
The 2nd-gen F-350 came to market with a 300-hp gas 5.4L Triton V8, a 365-hp gas 6.8L Triton V10, and a 350-hp PowerStroke 6.4L V8 turbo-diesel; all of these were offered with both six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmissions and a choice of 2WD or 4WD.
