– My Heart Beets

Photo Credit: Ashley from My Heart Beets

Ingredients: breakfast sausage, full-fat coconut milk, tapioca flour, fresh sage, onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, paprika, salt, coconut flour, baking soda, ghee, eggs.

Biscuits and gravy is classic American comfort food and there is no need for you to miss out since this Paleo dairy-free recipe gives you delicious sausage, creamy gravy and crumbly biscuits you can enjoy with the rest of the family. If you can, try to use fresh sage as it really brings out the flavor of the sausage. The tapioca flour will let you thicken the gravy to your liking, so add as much as you need.

Paleo Coconut Pancakes

– Paleo Flourish

Ingredients: eggs, coconut flour, coconut milk, vanilla extract, baking soda, coconut oil or ghee.

The pancakes in this recipe are designed to be eaten for breakfast, but would be a great Paleo snack for hungry kids after school too. The batter will be quite thick, but this is how it is meant to be, so don’t try to spread them out too much. The sweetener is optional, but if you are adding in the vanilla you may find them sweet enough already.

Paleo Chocolate Pancake Recipe

– Paleo Flourish

Ingredients: eggs, coconut flour, coconut milk, vanilla extract, raw honey, baking soda, cacao powder, coconut oil (or ghee).

These amazing chocolate pancakes look so rich and indulgent and have a great chocolate flavor. These gluten-free delights are simple to make, although they do burn quite easily so keep an eye on the heat. The consistency of the finished pancakes can be a little dry, so these are best served with a drizzle of honey or some berries.

Chocolate-Dipped Doughnuts

– Cavegirl Cuisine

Ingredients: eggs, banana, coconut flour, salt, Medjool dates, almond butter, vanilla, cocoa powder, coffee crystals, baking powder, dark chocolate.

When you see these doughnuts you would never guess that they are Paleo-friendly! These would fool anyone into thinking they were made to the original recipe using wheat flour and loads of sugar. Don’t worry if you don’t have a doughnut maker as these beauties can be made in a deep fryer or deep frying pan. These would be perfect for a celebration or as a gift for a hostess at a pot-luck.

Banana Pancakes Recipe

– Paleo Flourish

Ingredients: bananas, coconut flour, baking soda, coconut oil, raw honey or maple syrup, gelatin, hot water.

As these pancakes are both nut-free and grain-free, they are ideal for people whose system needs a gentler approach to breakfast. The banana is a great source of magnesium and tastes great. It also releases energy slower than other fruits, so keeps you going till lunch! The banana also helps keep the texture in the middle soft and delicious.

Keto French Toast Recipe

– Keto Summit

35 Paleo Comfort Food Recipes to Nourish the Soul (7)

Ingredients: Keto almond bread, eggs, water (or coconut milk), cinnamon, nutmeg, stevia, coconut oil (or ghee).

Keto bread is one of my favorites as I really missed bread when I started on this way of eating, so imagine my happy face when I found out I could have French toast again! This recipe gives you the traditional flavor of French toast with cinnamon and nutmeg, and I prefer it not too sweet so you might not need to add the sweetener. This makes a great breakfast served with some fruit.

Pumpkin Spice Waffles and Spiderman

– A Girl Worth Saving

Ingredients: coconut flour, pumpkin puree, eggs, coconut oil, water, pure vanilla extract, apple cider vinegar, baking soda, pumpkin pie spice.

At this time of year when winter is just round the corner, we find ourselves turning to comfort food to warm us. So here’s where pumpkin spice can be very handy, giving you gentle warming spices in a rich and satisfying waffle. When you bite into this you will not believe the waffles are gluten-free but they are sure to become a family favorite.

Paleo Cinnamon Rolls II

– A Girl Worth Saving

Photo Credit: Kelly from A Girl Worth Saving

Ingredients: coconut oil, water, sea salt, tapioca flour, coconut flour, B grade maple syrup or honey, egg, unsweetened flaked coconut, nuts, raisins, cinnamon power, palm shortening, coconut milk.

As a child, I remember being given cinnamon rolls at a posh afternoon tea party, but didn’t really appreciate the light pastry and subtle flavor. Now I absolutely love these flaky treats and often serve them as an impressive Paleo dessert when we are entertaining, or as a special treat for celebrations or when you have friends round for coffee. The frosting is optional, but I think it makes them even better!

Chicken and Waffles

– Cavegirl Cuisine

35 Paleo Comfort Food Recipes to Nourish the Soul (10)

Photo Credit: Michelle from Cavegirl Cuisine

Ingredients: chicken drumsticks, almond meal, Mural of Flavor (or Italian Seasoning or preferred spice), sea salt, ground pepper, ghee or organic butter (omit), eggs, coconut flour, almond butter, banana, baking powder, red pepper flakes, ground celery seed, pure maple syrup.

The coating on the chicken in this Paleo recipe gives the chicken a wonderful crisp outer case and soft and juicy meat inside. These would be great on their own for lunch or at a family picnic as they are really portable. To make them into a more substantial meal, serve them with waffles like in this recipe and drizzle with some maple syrup to offset the meat and the spice in the waffles.

Paleo Comfort Foods – Lunch/Dinner

Paleo Chili Con Carne Recipe

– Paleo Flourish

Ingredients: olive oil, yellow onion, green bell peppers, button mushrooms, beef, cayenne pepper, cumin powder, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, bone broth, garlic, salt, pepper, spring onions.

There is something so comforting about a big plate of chili served over rice, with all the heat from the spices and the flavors of the meat and seasonings, that you just want to tuck in, especially on a cold day! This Paleo chili recipe has all the flavor you would expect but without the kidney beans, and serving this dish over cauliflower rice transforms it into a hearty and wholesome meal.

Paleo Chili and Guacamole Topped Parsnip Fries Recipe

– Paleo Flourish

Ingredients: parsnips, salt, olive oil, tomato sauce or diced tomatoes, beef, coconut oil, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, guacamole.

If you are living the Paleo lifestyle I am sure you have tried making fries with sweet potato, but have you tried parsnip? It gives you crisp fries with a wonderful flavor and they are great as they are or with a dip for game night. However, heaped with homemade chili and guacamole and you have comfort food in a bowl! Happy tummies!

Bison Pineapple Chili

– Paleo Flourish

Ingredients: Wellness Meat ground bison, pineapple, green bell peppers, chili pepper, yellow squash, tomatoes, tomato paste, cumin powder, oregano, chili powder, salt.

If you have never had chili with fruit in it, all I can say is – Try It! The pineapple gives the chili in this Paleo-friendly recipe such a great fresh flavor and helps to cut through any fattiness from the meat. It also makes the spices taste a little milder so it is perfect for those of you who don’t like things too spicy. If you can’t get hold of bison locally, you can just use ground beef instead.

Paleo Brisket Chili

– Paleo Flourish

Ingredients: brisket, olive oil, onion, garlic, mushrooms, bell peppers, paprika, oregano, cumin, dried basil, black pepper, chili powder, beef broth, tomatoes, tomato paste, salt.

If you are looking for an impressive dish to serve to friends, I can recommend this brisket chili recipe as it is hearty, delicious and looks so rich it is bound to impress! Tasting this dish, you will hardly believe it is Paleo and I have often had compliments from non-Paleo friends who were bowled over by how tasty it is. I like to serve this rich and flavorful chili over cauliflower rice.

Paleo Tuna Casserole Recipe

– Paleo Flourish

Ingredients: tuna cans, small onion, peas, carrots, celery, sweet potato, coconut cream, eggs, coconut flour, shredded coconut, coconut oil, salt, pepper.

Canned tuna can be bought in any store at a reasonable price, so this tuna casserole would be great for students or families working off a tight budget. The moist chunks of tuna and tender vegetables are filling and delicious and the coconut topping takes on a slight crunch after cooking, giving you added texture. This casserole would make a lovely midweek Paleo meal for the whole family.

Paleo Meatloaf Recipe with Paleo Bread Crumbs

– Paleo Flourish

Ingredients: beef, pork, onion, egg, parsley, salt, Paleo microwave bread, almond milk, coconut milk, Paleo ketchup, coconut oil.

In order to get the correct texture for meatloaf, we would normally use breadcrumbs which are unsuitable for the Paleo way. So this great Paleo meatloaf recipe uses a fantastic grain-free bread which can give the same texture but without the wheat. You can top this delicious meatloaf with the ketchup, or simply make gravy and pour that over the slices instead.

Paleo Meatloaf with Mushrooms

– Paleo Flourish

Ingredients: avocado oil, white button mushrooms, beef, pork, onion powder, garlic powder, fresh parsley, paleo ketchup, egg, mustard, salt, pepper, bacon, Basil leaves.

Now this is my idea of comfort food! A wonderful Paleo meatloaf, wrapped in bacon and drizzled with ketchup, and with the added meatiness from a load of mushrooms. It has a tiny bit of heat from the mustard, but the seasonings can be adjusted to suit whatever meat you use. You can even use ground turkey and add a little ground sage to boost the flavor, as turkey and bacon are perfect partners!

Chicken, Bacon, and Apple Mini Meatloaves Recipe

– Paleo Flourish

Ingredients: apples, chicken breasts, bacon, olive oil or avocado oil, salt.

Sometimes meatloaf can be a bit dry, but not these little beauties! The chopped apples add an extra texture and flavor and a bit of freshness and sets off the chicken and bacon really well. These mini loaves make a great grain-free dish for breakfast or to pack in your lunchbox for work. These also go down well with the kids and are a great way to get them to eat healthy without realising!

Baked Parsnip Paleo Fries Recipe

– Paleo Flourish

Ingredients: parsnips, parsley, olive oil, salt, pepper.

If you are experimenting with using different veggies to make Paleo fries for a game night or as a side dish for the family, you might want to give parsnips a go! They work just as well as sweet potatoes and have a natural sweetness that comes out when they are baked. These would be great served with Paleo ketchup, with a dip or as a side with burgers or chicken.

Paleo Cauliflower Crust Pizza Recipe with Mushrooms

– Paleo Flourish

Ingredients: cauliflower, almond flour, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, olive oil, egg, ground black pepper, white button mushrooms, arugula.

Here is quite a basic Paleo pizza recipe that you can use as a guide to making your own homemade cauliflower crust pizzas. This one is grain and dairy-free and can be very handy if your family have allergy issues. Obviously you can add a sauce on top before adding the toppings – salsa works well here, then you can decorate it with your favorite meats and veggies for a delicious lunch.

Creamy Paleo Cauliflower Mash Recipe

– Paleo Flourish

Ingredients: cauliflower, cultured ghee (or coconut oil), coconut milk, vanilla extract, salt.

Here is the perfect creamy yet healthy Paleo-friendly mash to serve to family and friends as it can be used in place of mashed potato with any meal. This is ideal for people with blood sugar issues such as diabetics as the mash is very low in carbohydrates. If you are serving this mash with fish, you could chop the scallions and mix through the dish then sprinkle a little dill on the top.

Paleo Lasagna Recipe with Eggplants

– Paleo Flourish

Ingredients: pork, beef, onion, garlic, tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, parsley, oregano, thyme, fennel seeds, eggs, coconut oil, salt, eggplant.

It can be difficult to find a Paleo alternative to using traditional pasta, so this recipe would be a great one to try with your family. The eggplants don’t have a strong flavor so they take on the tastes of the meat and fresh herbs and give the dish that well-known layered look of lasagne. If you don’t like eggplants, this dish works well using leeks instead, just slice the leek lengthways and flatten out the individual sheets.

Grain Free Nacho Pot Pie

– Beauty and The Foodie

Ingredients: beef, organic taco seasoning mix (or homemade taco mix: chili powder, cumin, sea salt, smoked paprika, garlic powder, coriander powder, cayenne pepper, water), cauliflower, coconut flour, egg.

Here is another great recipe that gives you all the flavors of nachos but without the grains, and this is a low-carb meal that will suit the whole family. You can use ready-mixed seasonings, but this recipe gives you the method for making your own spice mix so you can be totally in charge of ingredients. Top this wonderful pie with avocado and a dollop of soured cream if you tolerate dairy.

10-minute Paleo Tomato Soup

– Cook Eat Paleo

35 Paleo Comfort Food Recipes to Nourish the Soul (23)

Ingredients: tomatoes, chicken stock or vegetable stock, garlic infused olive oil, tomato paste, chipotle chili flakes, sea salt, ground pepper.

Need a warming plate of tomato soup in just ten minutes? This is a fantastic soup recipe that suits both the Paleo and Keto way of eating and is dairy-free as well! The chicken stock base can be made easily by boiling up a chicken carcass, so next time you have roast chicken, make some stock and this soup can be lunch for the following day. This way nothing goes to waste and you can feed the family for less.

Paleo Crock Pot Chicken Soup

– Cook Eat Paleo

35 Paleo Comfort Food Recipes to Nourish the Soul (24)

Ingredients: onion, celery, carrots, apple cider vinegar, herbes de Provence or several sprigs fresh herbs, chicken breasts, chicken thighs, sea salt, ground pepper, water.

Ideal for Paleo-friendly comfort food on a chilly day, this traditional recipe is a great way to use up leftover meat. The cider vinegar gives this dish a lovely fresh taste, and you can add all your favorite herbs, or experiment with a few new ones! If you prefer to make a richer soup, you can substitute homemade chicken broth for some of the water.

Dairy-free Mac and Cheese

– My Heart Beets

35 Paleo Comfort Food Recipes to Nourish the Soul (25)

Photo Credit: Ashley from My Heart Beets

Ingredients: almond flour pasta, cauliflower, nutritional yeast, lemon, tahini, cashews, dijon mustard, coconut oil, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, unsweetened nut milk, sea salt, ground pepper, turmeric.

Mac and cheese is a favorite the world over, either as a main dish or as a side, so this great dairy-free recipe using vegan pasta could be your healthy alternative. The ‘cheese’ flavor comes from the cashews and nutritional yeast used in the sauce recipe and helps give this dish a creamy coating. If you can’t handle pasta at all, you can substitute zucchini noodles although you won’t get the same texture.

Cauliflower Dumplings with Creamy Chicken Soup

– Popular Paleo

Ingredients: cauliflower, chicken, water, chicken stock, carrots, celery, tapioca flour, coconut flour, egg, thyme, sea salt, kosher salt, black pepper.

Thanks to the cauliflower, you can still have a creamy chicken soup that is so tasty but dairy-free. This is a great way to use up leftover chicken to make a filling and wholesome soup for dinner, especially if you add in the dumplings, which were traditionally added to dishes like these to make the meat go further and keep the cost down. So next time you have chicken, here’s a great recipe for lunch the next day!

Paleo Comfort Foods – Dessert

Scrummy Paleo Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake Recipe

– Paleo Flourish

Ingredients: almond flour, tapioca flour, baking soda, salt, honey, egg, vanilla extract, ghee or coconut oil, dark chocolate chips.

From start to finish, this Paleo cookie cake can be prepared and cooked in under 30 minutes, so would be great when entertaining friends. Just think giant chocolate chip cookie, but with the texture of cake! It is a good idea to line the baking tin with parchment as this helps to stop the cake from sticking. If you find it hard to get cakes out, then one tip is to place a strip of parchment in the base and extending over the edges of the tin, then you can use this to lift out the cake.

Apple Pie

– Paleo Flourish

Ingredients: almond flour, chia flour, egg, coconut oil, vanilla extract, baking soda, salt, raw honey, coconut flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves.

Paleo pastry can be notoriously awkward to work, but why not try this handy tip? Adding chia flour helps to give enough stretch in the pastry to make it easier to work. Do not panic if your pie lining has holes or gaps – just patch them with pastry trimmings and no-one will notice! Based on traditional apple pie fillings, this recipe gives the warming, comforting flavor that we all expect from an old favorite!

5-Minute Paleo Chocolate Pumpkin Pie

– Paleo Flourish

Ingredients: pumpkin puree, ghee, pure cocoa powder, pumpkin pie spice.

If you are like me and have problems with controlling portion size when it comes to desserts on the Paleo diet then this recipe is ideal! It is quick and super-easy to make and is cooked and served in the one dish. You have a lovely chocolate flavor with the scent of the pumpkin pie spice hitting you as it cooks. If you prefer to have a sweeter dessert then just add whatever sweetener you use and enjoy this warm or chilled.

Mango Ginger Coconut Paleo Ice Cream Recipe

– Paleo Flourish

Ingredients: mango, coconut cream, unsweetened shredded coconut, lime juice, ginger, raw honey.

If you need a really impressive tropical dessert for a fancy party or dinner then what could be better than mango and coconut with a hint of ginger! This dairy-free ice cream recipe has been a favorite in our house for a long time as the mango adds another level of creaminess to the dessert. This would be perfect to enjoy as a cooling snack on a hot summer’s day too!

Easy Paleo Strawberry Ice Cream Recipe

– Paleo Flourish

Ingredients: strawberries, coconut cream, coconut flakes.

Have you been thinking that homemade ice cream is too difficult? Well if I can do it so can you, and I don’t even have an ice cream maker! Recipes like these for dairy-free ice cream can be a great way to introduce healthier eating to your kids as they will not be able to tell the difference, especially if the strawberries are really ripe, as they add in all the sweetness you need without added sugar.
